Monday Announcements, June 11th

●   Yearbooks are here!  If you were not able to pick up your already purchased yearbook last week, 
stop by the main office to pick yours up!

● This afternoon we will be honoring Ms. Vasquez with our traditional flower walk to celebrate her 
retirement. We will be bringing flowers around to the classrooms this afternoon for you to join in 
the celebration. We thank Ms. Vasquez for all of her many years of teaching and loving students, we 
wish her all the best as she enjoys her retirement!!

●   You are invited to compete in the World’s largest robotics Olympics.  We have an established 
team that is currently an Oregon State champion and three-time USA Vex Olympic member. This team is currently ranked 13th in the in world out of 50 countries. Teams are tasked with designing, building, coding, and engineering challenges with driver skills.Tournaments are held at regional, state, and world Olympic levels for the world title competing against 50 countries. We are looking for those that have the same passion and want to compete at events like never before, branding our school and making team Chemeketa together. Please join us for an informational/interest meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 12th at 3:30 pm in the gym.  We hope to see you there!

● All Library items are needing to be turned back in. Library books are past due, so please return 
ASAP to avoid fines. Textbooks will be turned back in during the class they are for. Chromebooks 
and other technology items are due Monday June 11th. 9th and 10th grade ECHS students will turn in 
during AVID, all other students please get them turned in at the library.

●   Finals are coming, please make sure you are getting your work turned in on time and ready to 
finish the year strong!!

●   We thank you all for a wonderful school year, and after you complete your finals, we wish you 
an awesome summer break!!

●  Graduation is coming quickly!!  It will be this Thursday, June 7th at 7:00 pm.  Thank you to those students who have offered to help this year, we have filled all of the available spots.

●   Attention seniors, if you have not yet picked up your cap and gown, please see Tami in the main office!  This is getting real!!

●   The Teen Parent butterfly senior celebration will be on Wed., June 6th at 2:30 pm in Mrs. Leighty’s room.  This will be an awesome time for our Teen moms, please plan now to come and support them!

● Field day is back again this year!! It is happening this Friday afternoon! In preparation for the 
tie dying on field day: · Bring a cotton clothing item or two to tie-dye on Field Day! Shirts, socks, onesies, etc. If you want to tie your items beforehand and soak them in preparation for Friday, this is the best way, bring them to Mr. Williams’ classroom after school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Otherwise bring items on Friday!

○ There will also be a Staff vs. Student volleyball tournament! Sign your 6 person team up outside the gym, then check back on Field day for your matches. The winner of the student teams faces off against the teacher’s in the championship.  Come out and cheer on your friends!

●   Yearbooks are arriving soon!  We will be having a yearbook launch party on June 1st at 3:05 pm in the courtyard. Root beer floats will be served! Our seniors will receive their yearbooks at their mandatory meeting held on the same day!

●  Graduation is coming quickly!!  It will be on Thursday, June 7th at 7:00 pm.  Thank you to those students who have offered to help this year, we have filled all of the available spots.

● Attention seniors, our next mandatory senior meeting is on June 1st. Early College seniors will meet at 9:00 am in the library, and Teen Parent seniors will meet in Mrs. Leighty’s room during the first lunch. We will be passing out your caps and gowns- This is getting real!!

●   The Teen Parent butterfly senior celebration will be on Wed., June 6th at 2:30 pm in Mrs. Leighty’s room.  This will be an awesome time for our Teen moms, please plan now to come and support them!

●    “Do you need community engagement hours? Have you ever wanted to be a test subject? If you answered yes to one or both of those questions then your in luck. The Science Research students are looking for people to be test subjects for their research project and if you sign up you can receive community engagement hours for participating. If you are interested in signing up to be a test subject then see the sign up board outside Ms. Utley’s room (room 152) and sign up to be a test subject.”  (5 weeks-starting 4/30)

● Have you ever wondered what to do after school?  Come join a club!!  The poetry club will continue to meet every Monday after school in Mrs. Utley’s room, we also have Magic Mondays meeting in Kresner’s room. If you haven’t played, you can still join, they will provide the cards and teach you how to play! The MESA club will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 3:30 pm, in Ms. Carver’s room. Basketball club meets every Tuesday from 3:30-5:00 pm in the gym for all skill levels. Volleyball 
open gym will continue every Thursday after school at 3:45 pm in the gym. Come join in the fun!!

ECHS & TPP Students Receive Awards for Positive Change Toward Excellence

On Wednesday, May 23 Salem-Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) recognized 21
students from across the district and community in the 2018 Turnaround Achievement
Awards. Jenneffer Martinez and Tony Saavedra Sabera from Building 50 each received this honor from Salem Keizer Schools Superintendent Christy Perry. 

This award recognizes middle and high school students in our district that demonstrate effort,
commitment and perseverance in the face of adversity. Recipients of this award have
shown personal improvement in their academics, behavior or attitude and continue to
implement these qualities in their daily lives.

Monday Announcements, May 21

●   Last week, our MESA club students traveled to Portland State University and had a great time!  
Here are the results:

- Team “SYMO” - Brent and Michael (McGuire) - won a bridge-building/cantilever engineering on-site competition – taking 1st place for Oregon High Schools!

- Team Blast Off 1! Ryan, Sydnee, and Nida won the “Debris Debacle” Boat-building on-site 
competition- taking 1st place for Oregon high schools!

- Team Egg Heads won 3rd place for Oregon High Schools for their launcher design in the “distance accuracy” category – congrats to Elvis, Tabitha, Alyssa, and Brandy!

- Team Blast off #2! Won 3rd place in the “Debris Debacle” On site for Oregon High schools – 
congrats to Karla and Victoria!

- Our school mentor from Oregon Institute of Technology – Chris Love – won Mentor of the Year out of all Oregon MESA chapters! A HUGE thank you to Chris for all the work he has put in for our ECHS students.

- Ms. Carver is so proud of our sophomores – Andres, Victoria, Sydnee, Nida, Ryan, Chris, Zak – who just completed their “sounding payload” that will be LAUNCHED INTO SPACE in June by NASA in Virgina. They presented their final design at MESA Day and are the only high schoolers in Oregon who have participated in this gravity research!

- Overall we had a great time at MESA Day – our final MESA Day meeting and end–of-year celebration will be tomorrow Tuesday May 22nd! MESA Club members: bring a snack to share to our final club meeting!

● Did you know local recycling regulations are changing? Because of these new recycling rules, the 
only items that should go into your blue recycling bins are paper and cardboard. Please do not put 
shredded paper into your recycling container. Stay tuned as there is a campaign being developed by 
Marion County regarding these new recycling rules. Thank you for your help in making this 
adjustment.

Basketball club meets every Tuesday from 3:30-5:00 pm in the gym for all skill levels. Volleyball

● In case you haven't noticed, the Emaa Da drummers are selling Mexican candy during lunch. The 
candy sale ends on Friday. There will be no restocking of supplies, so get your Pelones, Duvalines, Pulparindos, and Mazapan soon before it is all sold out. Thank you for supporting Emaa Da.

● “Attention Teen Parents, this Thursday is the last Ready for Kindergarten Workshop.  Come to 
school on Thursday morning, drop off your child in childcare, pile your plate with delicious food, 
don’t forget your binder and then head to your classroom.  Your workshop will start promptly at 8:30 in the same classroom that you attended the workshop last time. A new bag of brand new toys and materials will be waiting for you. If you have any questions, please see Jenny or Julie. Again, we cannot wait to you see you this Thursday, May 17th at 8:30 come hungry and ready to learn!”

● Prom photos are on our website, be sure to check them out, they are full of great memories!! Did 
you know we were also featured in the Statesman Journal? They have a nice photo gallery of our 
prom. Thank you again to all of those that helped make our prom a success!!

●  Welcome to Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week!!  The student council committees have been 
working hard to make sure this is a fun week for you!! You will find a treat in your mailboxes this morning, signs on your doors, you will be treated to an all staff breakfast on Wed. morning, and another treat on Friday morning. We appreciate all you do for us each and every week!  Enjoy your special week!!

● Our next BOOST activity afternoon is coming up on May 9th, you will be getting to sign up for 
BOOST activities very soon! Stop by and ask Mrs. Rediger in the library for a list of activities or 
sign up on the google doc for what activity you would like to do that day!

● Our next Kindergarten Readiness training for TTP will be held on May 17th. Plan now to attend the 
last in the readiness series.

● Prom was this past Sat. night!! A huge thank you to our awesome student council members and our 
wonderful staff that helped make this years prom a success! From the amazing magician, to the wall 
of donuts, and the Z100 DJ, it was a night to remember!! Thank you for purchasing tickets and 
attending this year's prom, it would not have been the same without YOU!! Please share your photos 
with Mr. Rose-Phillips for our website.

● Did you know local recycling regulations are changing? Because of these new recycling rules, the 
only items that should go into your blue recycling bins are paper and cardboard. Please do not put
