Teen Parent Program welcomes volunteers from Tokyo International University

For the past ten years, the Teen Parent Program has been welcoming students from Tokyo International University in Kawagoe.  These college students are currently enrolled in a Willamette University Volunteerism class focused on teen pregnancy. Assistant Principal Paul Sell and Childcare Director Jennifer Gelbrich recently had the privilege to meet with these students and answer questions about our program.  The volunteers also had an opportunity to be a part of Mrs. Leighty’s 3rd period class and loved getting to hear from a few of our student moms.

Each Wednesday in the fall semester, Tokyo International student volunteers spend their morning working in our infant/toddler classrooms playing, reading, talking and learning from our children and staff.  It is one of our favorite days, as these volunteers show us that even though there might be a language barrier, the language of play is universal.  We hope you get an opportunity to see how our youngest students and visitors from Tokyo University enjoy each other and this unique experience.
