Salem-Keizer Public Schools Recognizes Students for Turnaround Achievements 2019

Middle and High School Students Receive Awards for Positive Change Toward Excellence

Salem-Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) recognized 20 students from across the district and community in the 25th Annual Turnaround Achievement Awards On Tuesday, May 7. Sponsored by Don and Ann Lebold of Town and Country Lanes, the Turnaround Achievement Awards recognize middle- and high-school students who demonstrate effort, commitment and perseverance in the face of adversity. Recipients of this award have shown personal improvement in their academics, behavior or attitude and continue to implement these qualities in their daily lives.

Since 1994, these awards have inspired and motivated more than 400 students to achieve success in their personal, academic and professional lives.

“I’m finally a great example for my little brothers,” said West Salem High School recipient Eddie Perez. “I’m really proud of myself.”

Each day, educators and students work together to achieve our vision: all students graduate and are prepared for a successful life. In just a few short weeks, eight students honored at this year’s Turnaround Achievement Awards will cross the graduation stage at their school’s commencement ceremonies, marking the beginning of their bright
post-secondary futures.

“These awards are so meaningful and truly encompass the true grit, determination and perseverance our students hold,” said SKPS Superintendent Christy Perry. “Over the past 25 years, it has been a privilege to honor our students and the positive changes they have made.”
