SKPS to reduce limited-in-person instruction and suspend athletic activities

SKPS to reduce limited-in-person instruction and suspend athletic activities

On Friday, Nov. 13, Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced a statewide two-week freeze on activities, which will take effect on Wednesday, Nov. 18. After receiving additional guidance from the Oregon Department of Education, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our limited in-person instruction and suspend all athletic activities across the district.

Key points to know:

  • Effective Monday, Nov. 16, all extracurricular workouts, and activities are paused.
  • If your school has plans for any supply distribution or limited in-person instruction next week, most will continue as scheduled until Wednesday. Your school will be communicating with you directly about those plans.
  • Grab-n-go meals will continue to be available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. An up-to-date list of distribution sites is always available on our district website.
  • School offices will be closed to the public. Schools can still be reached Monday – Friday by phone.

These decisions do not come easy, especially as we know how our limited in-person instruction has supported our students through distance learning. We will continue to do our best to support students to ensure they can access their learning.

We need to join as a community to slow the spread of this virus and do everything we can to support the health and safety of our SKPS family and our greater Salem-Keizer community.

Puntos clave a saber:

School Day Schedule Adjustments for the Week of November 9

Reminder that there will be no school on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, in recognition of the Veterans Day holiday. This will change the school day schedule for the week starting November 9. Instead of Monday being a student support day, it will be a school day.

The goals of this decision were: students not losing a day of instruction and keeping the instructional hours consistent for both of our cohort groups at the secondary level.

Elementary School Students

Elementary students will have school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the week of November 9.

Middle and High School Students

Secondary students in the Tuesday/Thursday cohort will attend Monday and Thursday of that week and secondary students in the Wednesday/Friday cohort will attend Tuesday and Friday of that week.

EDGE Students

All EDGE students will have school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of that week.

Please review the 2020-21 Cohort Calendar for additional information about important dates.
