Complete registration for bus service for the 2021-22 school year

Starting the first week of September, SKPS school buses will be hitting the road as students return to school for the 2021-22 school year! Will your child need transportation to or from school this year? There are a few quick and easy steps for you to take to ensure your child is ready to go on day one.

1. Check eligibility for bus transportation

Transportation-eligible means that the student lives at a residence within their neighborhood school attendance boundary, and the residence is outside the State of Oregon defined walk zone for that school. The walk zones are 1.0 mile for elementary students and 1.5 miles for middle and high school students.

You can check eligibility for bus transportation on the Busfinder webpage.

If you are eligible, you will see the link appear for “PARENTVUE” to complete the bus rider registration process. If you do not qualify for bus transportation based on your child’s school and residence address, you will not see this link appear.

*Please note: when you follow the link to complete the registration process, you will be taken to the online registration process. The selection for bus transportation toward the end of the online registration process. (See step 2).

2. Complete bus rider registration

Prior to riding the bus, your child will need to be registered for bus transportation. Registration can be completed by checking the box “Bus Rider Registration” during the online registration or enrollment verification process through ParentVUE. This option will appear on the “Students” step is near the end of the registration process. (See below).

If you need assistance with completing online registration, if you missed this step during online registration, or need to confirm if your registration is complete, please contact your child’s school who can assist you in verifying your bus rider registration.

*Please note that although the option to select bus rider registration will be available to all families through the registration process, only families who are eligible for bus transportation (step 1) will be provided transportation.

Check your child’s bus transportation information for bus route, stop and times

Approximately 48 hours after completing registration, information about bus routes, stops and times will be available for your student in ParentVUE.

To find this information, navigate to the “Student Information” tab on the ParentVUE app then select “additional information.”

If you need support to complete this process for your child, please contact your school for assistance or contact the Transportation department at 503-399-3100.

Transportation Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How do I complete registration for bus transportation?

Answer: All families who qualify and would like their child to utilize bus transportation need to complete bus rider registration. After confirming eligibility, registration can be completed during the “students” step of online registration. If you need support with this process, please contact your child’s school.

A: After completing rider registration, bus route and stop information will be available in the “student information” section of ParentVUE under “additional information.” If you need support with accessing your ParentVUE account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

Middle and high school bell schedules, late start days and first day of school

The start of the 2021-22 school year is right around the corner. Here is all the information you will need about bell schedules, late start days and the first day of school for middle and high school students.

Start and end times

This year, all SKPS schools will have a new bell schedule for the 2021-22 school year.

Middle school

Middle schools will start at 9:20 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., with the exception of Roberts Middle School which will start at 9:45 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m.

High school

High school will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:20 p.m., with the exception of the three locations below:

  • CTEC – 9 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
  • Early College High School – 8:30 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
  • Roberts High School – 8:30 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

Programs

  • EDGE Secondary will start at 8:55 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m.
  • The Community Transition Program will start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

Late start on Wednesdays

All SKPS schools will have a late start day on Wednesday. This means that the school start time will be one hour later than normal. Dismissal time will remain at the normal time.

For example, if school is regularly scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and release at 3:20 p.m., it will still be released at 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday; however, school will not begin until 9:30 a.m.

A late start day allows school staff a regular time for collaboration and planning in order to better support our students.

All bus transportation pick-up times will also be shifted one hour late on Wednesdays, with limited exceptions. Exceptions to this will be contacted directly for bus stop time adjustments. Drop-off times for all buses will remain at the normal time.

First days of school

Middle school

The first day of school for middle school will be on a “transition day.” This allows 6th grade students to get familiar with their school in a smaller setting before everyone is together.

  • 6th grade students will start on Sept. 7. They will then come back for regular instruction on Sept. 8, which happens to be a late start day.
  • 7th and 8th grade students will start on Sept 8., which happens to be a late start day.

High school

The first day of school for high school will be on a “smooth start.” This allows 9th grade students to get familiar with their school in a smaller setting before everyone is together.

  • 9th grade students will start on Sept. 7. They will then come back for regular instruction on Sept. 8, which happens to be a late start day.
  • 10th, 11th and 12th grade students will start on Sept 8., which happens to be a late start day.

If you have any additional questions regarding bell times, late start or the first day of school, please reach out to your student’s school.
